I’m not sure why I sign off with “Captain O’Connor” at the end of every log I make. Who is ever going to read any of these logs? I’m literally the last captain left. Unless I die in the next year or so (goodness, I hope I’m not foreshadowing or anything), I will literally be the captain until we land this thing relatively soon. Sure, we’ve still got a ways to go, but there isn’t exactly a line of crew members waiting to replace me.

For that matter, I think at this point, my purpose is holding the ‘spirit’ of the ship together. I don’t mean that like I’m keeping everyone in good spirits, it’s more that I still keep my uniform clean, I still do regular ship inspections, I still record crew status, and like right now, I still create regular reports.

Meanwhile, I passively mentioned to Veronica just moments ago that I was planning on ‘submitting a log,’ and she told me to make sure I flush it. I had to admit, it was pretty funny. But I feel conflicted. As captain, I’m supposed to commit myself to a particular decorum. But how am I supposed to do that when I’m literally the captain of two other people on a ship built for two hundred? I mean, their jobs are automated, I could literally jettison their crew quarters in their sleep and it would probably increase the ship’s efficiency.

Actually, come to think of it, I do need to poop. Damnit.

Captain O’Connor.
